Ronald Reagan.

Reagan was the 40th president of the United States, and was an actor prior to his presidency. He was in office from 1981-1989 but even with these short years, Reagan grew to be an iconic American household name, even starring in popular movies like “kings row” and “hellcats of the navy.”

in Reagans second term his main goal was to end the cold war and his contributions ultimately led to the downfall of the USSR and the end of the cold war. Reagan negotiated a rearmament program to the USSR through the national security decisions directive. The act he imposed basically decreased USSR access to high level military technology greatly reducing the risk of nuclear warfare and diminishes their recourses to build new high level military technology. He also urged Mikhail Gorbachev, former USSR president at the time to “tear down this wall!” which references the Berlin wall which divided the western allies with the USSR. Tearing the wall down would not only bring Berlin together physically but would physiologically resemble the unification and peace with the western allies and USSR again. 

During his time in office, Reagan accomplished many great achievements, most notably his work on reducing taxes and reducing government spending which as a result helped lessen the class inequality in America. Additionally he dubbed his program a flashy name, Reaganomics. He also greatly assisted the economy by enacting the economic recovery tax act of 1981. Summed up, this act reduced taxes for the average taxpayer as many households were struggling to pay off the tax raise due to the cold war. Finally during the Reagan era, he managed to bring Americas annual GDP to 3.5% from 2.9% the preceding 8 years which is really impressive. The overall unemployment rate dropped by 1.7% which allowed for more opportunity for financial income.

In conclusion, Ronald Reagan was one of the most iconic American presidents loved not only in office but out. From his nation lasting contributions to the cold war by practically diminishing the USSR nuclear arsenal to The sheer coolness of surviving an assassination attempt, along with his slogan “make America great again” following his path. He went from fixing the economy to making international negotiations, and additionally directly contributed to the end of the cold war. He went from actor to president and Reagan will certainly go down as an influential figure in American history.
